Merging Threads

Admin,

Are your moderators not able to merge two threads with the same content as opposed to deleting them?

If this is not available i've seen it used on other sites .. its a pretty good feature.

im not saying i want anything merged but seeing as how a thread about me was deleted earlier when it didnt need to be .... i thought that was dumb

if u have the option to merge threads .. why not do that instead

the reasoning of "keep it to one thread" is stupid .... why should we be told how many threads we can make on a topic if its NOT breaking any rules .... just merge it into the main thread?

yeah i'm not sure what had happened
if I delete a thread because there is already a very similar one present
the post count it 2 or less
so deleting it seemed like it wasn't a big deal
but if I'm presented with a situation like that
merging will be in equal consideration rather than jumping to delete it

if i was complaining i'd be bitching about it being deleted and questioning why and going on and on .... it could've EASILY been merged .. hence my thread question ... but u have a problem with anything i damn well do .. go figure.

indeed but the thread wasnt "old" ... it was a spin off (so to speak) of another thread ALREADY active ... all the mod had to do was merge it .. i dont see the big deal

now if it was something like Nice said .. only a couple replies .. or a REPEAT then fine .. but that wasnt the case .. as WELL as there were no rules broken .. so i wanted to know if the option to merge is there .. why wasnt it used?

True, you can bring your issue publically.

HOWEVER...since you said the thread was a 'spin off'...true...it should NOT have been deleted. HOWEVER...in this case it would not warrant a 'merge'. Since technically the threads are not on the same topic.

It's like...if you made a thread about the Playstation 3 and another one about the 360...though both threads are about video game consoles...merging them would just be stupid.

Not just that...but to merge a thread doesn't exactly organize the posts by 'thread'...it actually organizes them by post-dates...so the thread would then become confusing as hell due to random posts appearing in the thread because they were posted around the same time. Understand?

I know I've merged a few threads when I was a moderator on other sites...and it's NOT something that works well UNLESS it's a thread like say "Yay or Nay" or "Random Thoughts"

Anything that gets too complex...looks retarded when you merge all the posts together. That's why it's better to just delete the thread if it's 'spam'.

If it was the SAME topic...then it would have been spam...that's an automatic delete.

If it was a DIFFERENT topic...then you're right...it should NOT have been deleted or catagorized as spam...HOWEVER...a 'merge' isn't justified in that case since the topics are different.
