For the car folk here: Choose my car!

I'm a total car n00b, and so I come to you for advice.

I currently drive a 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5 SE. I want to trade it in & get an upgrade.

I was/am looking at the '07 Lexus IS 350, but figure it can't hurt to expand my options.

I like nice, luxurious-type cars. I also like names associated with said nice, luxurious cars (Lexus, Audi, Infinite, etc...). I like gadgets... just like every other guy out there. So things like GPS, backup cameras, separate air controls, heated seats, and stuff like that are big pluses.

I can't get a German car either. As much as I like BMW & Mercedes, as long as he's alive I have to respect my grandfather's wishes & stay away from them.


Used is fine. It's actually preferable as I don't want to spend more than $35,000-$40,000 or so. The cheaper the price the better though, of course.


So any suggestions?

Lexus:
IS 350 - '07 or '08
ES 350 - '07 or '08

Infinite:
G35 - '07 or '08

Cadillac:
CTS - '08


Anybody wanna give me a run-down of what they recommend out of those options & why? I'm pretty much going off of looks, but to be honest I don't know too much about the technical aspects & the specs; All of that is gibberish to me.

Well if insurance aint an issue for you and you like gadgets & all that stuff, get the 2005 infiniti g35 coupe, 1 of the sexiest cars on the street and i think would meet all your needs.

Insurance could potentially be an issue. Once I decide on my car or at least narrow down my choices, I'll have to give them a call & see how much my rates would go up by. I don't want to pay TOO much more than I'm paying now. But at this stage, it's not an issue, unless you know the rates for it are astronomical.

2005 g35 eh? I've been looking for '06 & up, haven't really looked much at '05 cars. But I'll check it out. I was considering the '07 g35, so I'll check out the '05 one.

I'm looking now at the '07 Lexus ES 350 (I'm a Lexus fan). It's similar to the IS I'm looking at, but with a little more of a luxurious rather than sporty look & it actually has some legroom in the back seat, lol. I think this car is beautiful though, especially in the black & black. I'm gonna have to seriously consider it.

You can't really go wrong with the Lexus or the G35.

I'd even think about getting the 2006 Acura 3.2 TL. Shit goes hard. It's not as nice as the Lexus 350 or the G35 but it's still bad as hell. Im thinking about getting one of those when I finish school. I'll probably end up fuckin with the Lexus though.

u cant narrow ur choices down to just those until u drive an 07 Acura TL-S

faster than a g35 off the line, gadgets up the ying yang, the stock system bumps like WHOAAA, comes 6spd manual if your a beast (plz be a beast) plus its the only 4 door car i would buy. Oh and the interior is awesome.

^^^^ Nah. It's nice & all, but I don't really want an Acura. I'm a Lexus/Infinite/Caddy kind of guy.

And sadly, I am no beast. Just automatic for me.

I'd be getting the g35 sedan, not the coupe. I don't like 2-door cars if there's a backseat.

And I can't drive manual. I don't even know how. I'd like to learn, but I really have no idea how.

i learnt how to drive stick in a week. after 2 weeks i never stalled again (not often.. just fluke occurances)


and once you learn, you most likely will never enjoy driving automatic again.

Idunno man. It would be cool to know, but it just seems like it would get so annoying driving stick all the time. I like to relax when I drive, I'm just laid back. I don't want to have to worry about keeping my hand by the stick & shifting gears all the time.

and with clutch tactics, and a fast car that goes to 80 in first gear haha..

All I know is that for expensive luxury cars like youre thinkin about getting is the parts and labour are expensive.

You dont really see alot of Lexus' on the road and G35's, you'll see them but not as much as Honda's and Toyota's, ect.. So if you get a dent in your car or your car fucks up in any way, be ready to fork up the dough for the parts. You gotta think about that too. I dont really know how youre eatin but if money aint a thing to you, dont even sweat that but if youre not eatin like that but you still wanna floss in a nice whip, you really gotta think about that too. These cars aint cheap to maintain.

Which is exactly why I'm avoiding cars like Acura's & whatnot, even if they are just as good or better than a Lexus. I'm the kind of guy who wants to stand out, I don't want to blend in. I want what everybody else doesn't have.

Maintenance isn't a huge issue to me. It sucks having to fork out dough for spare parts if I ever need to, but I'll manage. The only additional cost that might fuck me up is the insurance rates. If they spike too much more than I'm paying now, I might have to say fuck it & just stick with my Altima.
