    Study: 58% of African Americans can't swim

    NEW YORK (AP) — Nearly 60 percent of African-American children can’t swim, almost twice the figure for white children, according to a first-of-its-kind survey which USA Swimming hopes will strengthen its efforts to lower minority drowning rates and draw more blacks into the sport.

    I can swim but me and my guys used to walk 20-30 minutes to go to the pool in the summers and we all had to learn on our own. Im sick now though

    But there just aint no pools in the hood. No good ones atleast.

    It's funny because my mom paid for me to go to swimming classes, and I still can't swim. Smh

    Damn. Ya'll seriously can't swim? lol I thought that was just a myth. I have black friends who were raised in the suburbs who can't swim either. I don't understand this...it's a conspiracy.

    i know this will sound cynical but damn... if you can't swim dont go in the water.

    me included....can't swim
    I nearly drowned in the school pool in gr 9 gym
    the guy had to get the stick for me.

    that's true though, a good amount of caribbean people can swim, esp the boys.
